Nigel Calder writes, “ "My quest for the best information about this new technology has become urgent as I have personal choices to make about my next boat. From my recent reviews I'd prepared of digital switching systems available to boat builders (see Professional BoatBuilder Nos 97 and 98), even before attending E-Plex Institute I knew that Airpax was ahead of the pack in terms of: the versatility of its system; range of devices that can be controlled (from heating and air-conditioning, entertainment systems, energy management, and battery monitoring, to controlling just about any electrical device you might put on a boat); and the sophistication and user friendliness of the system's design software."

Kevin Falvey writes, "In the salon, open the main electrical distribution panel, or MDP. Instead of a confusing array of breakers, lockouts and gauges, you'll find a video touch screen.

...the system's hidden genius: Multiplexing. It cuts down on rigging time, makes troubleshooting easier, and makes the boat considerably lighter (cooper is heavy). You control lights and other devices with touch pads instead of switches. Very cool."

“[Cruisers 390 Sports Coupe ®] The 390's Airpax SCS digital control system uses a two-wire, twisted-pair buss that links all modules together and to a central control module in the engine room and another smaller one at the helm. While all this is undetectable by the helmsman, the system is far simpler and more versatile than the old wiring-harness systems used on most boats. Each output also has an override function, which lets you operate every function manually should there be a system failure. Also included is a fault-detection scheme that alerts you when the individual function is on, if there's an overload, or if there is no current to the function. This is a second-generation of the system Cruisers uses on its 415, 420, 460, 465.”

Richard Thiel writes, “[Sea Ray 36 Sedan Bridge®] The screen is not only easy to read, it’s eminently logical. I found there was absolutely no learning curve to it. The minute I began to use it, I understood how to navigate to exactly where I wanted to go. And perhaps best of all, the E-Plex uses a bus system that eliminates about 200 pounds of wiring harness.. .”
